YMCA SUMMER CAMP

Being and Staying Cool at the YMCA Summer Camp

With all its unique offerings, summer camp is a rite of passage; a memory that makes you smile. At the YMCA of the Suncoast and the Tampa Metropolitan Area YMCA, we're ready to help your children and teens create lasting summer camp memories.

At the Tampa YMCA, 2- to 5-year-olds can enjoy the experience at the newly launched YMCA Preschool Summer Enrichment Camp. Running from June 2 to Aug. 8 (the same dates as camps for older children), the summer camp will be hosted at the Central City Family YMCA in Tampa Heights and Camp Sierra in Carrollwood.

YMCA of the Suncoast

“By choosing the YMCA of the Suncoast for summer camp, parents can provide their children with a fun, enriching and memorable summer experience in a supportive community,” explains Beth Gettig, vice president of Youth Development for the Suncoast Y. “We offer well-rounded programs and a variety of activities, including sports, arts, swimming, outdoor adventures and leadership development, ensuring that every child has a chance to explore their interests and build new skills.”

With locations in Citrus, Hernando, Pasco and Pinellas counties, YMCA camps focus on character development, integrating values such as caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into the summer camp experience. This helps kids grow emotionally and socially while learning important life skills.

“The YMCA is committed to making summer camp accessible to all families,” Gettig says. “We offer affordable rates and financial assistance, so more children can enjoy the benefits of a fun and enriching summer experience.”

Tampa YMCA

“YMCA Summer Camp isn't just play – it’s purpose,” says Matt Lewis, vice president of Operations – Membership/Programs for the Tampa YMCA. “Our Summer Camp offers more than just childcare. It’s a place where kids can truly achieve, relate and belong. Y camps help children set and reach personal goals, whether it’s trying something new, building a skill or completing a challenge. It's about confidence, growth and having fun.”

“Every child is welcomed and celebrated for who they are. YMCA staff are trained in inclusive practices and create a nurturing space where each camper feels seen and valued. Everything is designed to strengthen spirit, mind and body. From fun activities to reflective moments, every experience helps kids become the heroes of their own stories, with the Y guiding their journey.”

In addition, this fun journey entails keeping kids cool in Tampa’s heat, which is crucial for comfort and safety. Hydration is essential, so the Y sets up stations across campuses for easy access.

Activities include water play, and are rotated between indoor, outdoor and shaded areas to keep campers cool. YMCA staff are trained to recognize the early signs of dehydration and heat exhaustion to keep campers safe.

Spots are limited. Don't wait, register today. Visit ymcasuncoast.org/letscamp or tampaymca.org/letscamp.
