How Your Family Can Join the YMCA’s Homeschool Programs
During the 2021 – 2022 school year, 10 percent of families throughout our region chose to homeschool their children. As a top-rated 4-star charity, the Y is a leader in providing innovative programs to meet the needs of the ever-changing Tampa community.
This summer, Tampa Y program directors and leadership staff teamed up to expand the growing need for students in the home education program. After connecting with Tampa Y members and summer camp families, the group identified four YMCA family centers to kick off the refreshed Homeschool Program.

The Homeschool Program based the new curriculum on YMCA education resources and the collective input from parents and families. Through collaboration with the community, the Y created a robust, quality program that will give home education students a chance to reach their full potential in an inclusive environment.
Each class includes one hour of physical education and one hour of curriculum learning in STEM, art, performance, design and more. Children ages 6 – 12 who are enrolled in home education learning are welcome to join the expanded Homeschool Program at the Y!
In addition to the structured curriculum, the Homeschool Program offers a space for students to make new friendships, develop lifelong memories and establish a positive sense of self. The program also infuses the Y’s four core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility into physical education-based modules and activities.
Paul Conley, District Executive Director of the Tampa YMCA, is proud to provide necessary services to the community.
“The Y strives to meet the community where they are, creating valuable out-of-school programs like our Homeschool group. The group allows us to meet the needs of families looking for social, education and physical activities for their children.”
