CMA and Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital Team Up to Offer Free Parenting Classes
The Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a great place for babies and toddlers to learn and grow and now the aquairum is teaming up wtih Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital to offer a free 8-week parent training series to help their parents learn and grow as well.
Each week of this free summer series centers around different developmental milestones including speech, feeding, and reading for children from birth to 5-years-old. You can pick and choose which session you’d like to attend or go to them all. The sessions will be hosted on Thrusdays from 9 am-10:30 am May 18 through July 6.
While the classes are free, your RSVP is required to secure your spot.
“We’re pleased to have this collaboration between Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital and Clearwater Marine Aquarium – a marine animal hospital,” said Joe Handy, CEO of Clearwater Marine Aquarium. “We educate guests about our animals’ health care and rehabilitation as we are the stewards of our worlds ocean and the animals that live in them. With this partnership, All Children’s Hospital experts will provide valuable health and development information to Tampa Bay parents,” said Handy. “We really see it as a full-circle moment to educate, inspire and make an impact.”
Note: Admission to Clearwater Marine Aquiarum is not included and not required. However, you can purchase a Florida Resident Pass for $40 by May 31 and return to CMA all summer long!

- May 18 “Beyond Baby Talk” will feature Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s pediatric speech language pathologist who will review age specific, speech language milestones.
- May 25 “Practical Strategies for Picky Eaters” will feature strategies provided by a certified pediatric speech language pathologist feeding therapist from Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital.
- June 1 “Purposeful Play – The building blocks of language and social development” will feature Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s certified speech language pathologist to discuss the importance of toys and playing.
- June 8 “Can You Hear Me” will feature Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s pediatric audiologist to review the milestones of hearing and listening skills.
- June 15 “What every parent needs to know about literacy/reading development in the preschool child” will feature Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s reading therapist to provide strategies in developing preliteracy skills.
- June 22 “Expressive language delay and the impact on behavior” will feature Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s pediatric speech language pathologist to discuss the impact that an expressive language delay may have on behavior.
- June 29 “My child isn’t talking and playing with others … Is it Autism?” will feature Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s masters level speech language pathologist to review red flags related to social and language developments.
- July 6 “Ask the Experts” will feature Johns Hopkins All Children’s Hospital’s panel of speech language pathologists, audiologists, occupational and physical therapists for a question and answer session.
