Teacher to Know: Mrs. Kelly Pitt 4th Grade Teacher at Countryside Christian
Walk through the hallways of Countryside Christian Academy and you’ll meet many wonderful teachers who dedicate their hearts to their students. Among them is a beloved 4th-grade teacher, Mrs. Kelly Pitt.
She has a special way of making her students feel seen, valued and loved while inspiring them to discover the joy of learning. Her passion for English, language arts and Bible comes alive in the way she teaches, encouraging her students to grow not only academically, but also in their faith and character.
Through her patience, compassion and genuine love for her students, Pitt helps shape young hearts and minds in ways that will last a lifetime.
What inspired you to become a teacher?
Kelly Pitt: Growing up, I always dreamed of becoming a teacher, but I did not choose that career path right away. I became a registered nurse, but I quickly realized it was not the right fit for me. When our children were born, I became a stay-at-home mom for several years.
Later, when our son was in college and our daughter was in high school, my husband encouraged me to return to school and pursue my dream of becoming a teacher. I told him I was too old to start over, but I decided to take the leap — and I am so grateful that I did!

What do you enjoy most about teaching your students each day?
Kelly Pitt: I love seeing the smiles on my students’ faces when they accomplish something they thought they couldn’t do … I encourage them to push themselves and keep trying. When they discover the answer or complete something they once thought was impossible, the pride and excitement on their faces is the best reward!
What is your favorite lesson or activity to teach, and why do you enjoy teaching it?
Kelly Pitt: I absolutely love teaching English Language Arts! One of my favorite activities is our novel studies. The students become so interested in the plot! I especially enjoy seeing students’ creativity come to life when they write their own stories or complete book projects.
What do you hope your students learn or remember most from being in your classroom?
Kelly Pitt: I hope my students remember that hard work pays off and that they are capable of achieving more than they realize. I also hope they remember that learning can be exciting, meaningful and fun … I also want them to remember the verse Isaiah 41:13, “I am the Lord God Who takes hold of your right hand and says to you DO NOT fear, I will help you.” That is our class verse.

What is one classroom tradition, routine or strategy that you use to help your students succeed?
Kelly Pitt: I believe in three important things: encouragement, structure and engagement. Students thrive when they feel supported, know what is expected of them and are excited about what they are learning. Creating a joyful classroom environment helps students feel confident and ready to grow.
What advice would you give to students who want to become better learners?
Kelly Pitt: Never give up! You are capable of pushing yourself further than you realize. Challenges are part of learning, and perseverance is what helps you grow. Keep trying, believe in yourself and remember that your hard work will lead to success.
What is your philosophy on recognizing the individual potential of every child?
Kelly Pitt: I believe that every child has potential. I don't define a child based solely on test scores. As teachers, we need to discover what each child is gifted at, what they enjoy and where their strengths lie. Once we identify that potential, our job is to nurture it, build their confidence and help unlock everything they are capable of achieving.
