Back-to-School Fair Returns Aug. 1 with Free Backpacks, Family Fun and School-Year Inspiration
Picture this: a student proudly slinging a brand-new backpack over their shoulders, a favorite sports mascot posing for photos nearby, performers taking the stage to showcase their talents, and parents crossing items off their back-to-school shopping lists … all while enjoying a break from the Florida heat.
That's the scene families can expect at the 19th Annual Back-to-School Fair, returning Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., presented by Hillsborough County Public Schools in partnership with Tampa Bay Parenting Magazine.
The event has become a cherished community tradition that helps families prepare for the school year while having plenty of fun along the way.
This year, the fair moves to Citrus Park Town Center, offering attendees a comfortable, air-conditioned venue and easy access to shopping during Florida's tax-free holiday. It's a welcome combination for parents looking to tackle school supply lists while giving their children a memorable day out before summer comes to an end.
While the fair is packed with resources, it's the energy of the event that keeps families coming back year after year. Throughout the day, student performers from across Hillsborough County Public Schools will take the stage, showcasing the talents nurtured through the district's performing arts programs. Singers, dancers and other young performers will provide entertainment and a glimpse into the opportunities available to students throughout the county.

Families can also enjoy face painting, games, raffles and interactive activities hosted by community partners from across the Tampa Bay area. Local sports mascots will be making appearances as well, creating plenty of opportunities for photos and smiles.
For parents interested in exploring educational options, the fair offers a chance to connect directly with representatives from many of the district's magnet schools. Schools such as Tampa Bay Technical High School, Stewart Middle Magnet School and Blake High School for the Performing Arts will be on hand to share information about their specialized programs and answer questions from prospective families.
Of course, one of the most anticipated traditions of the day is the backpack giveaway. The first 1,000 students in line will receive a free backpack, with a colorful selection available for students to choose from while supplies last. For many children, it's the first tangible sign that a new school year is right around the corner.
The event also gives families an opportunity to hear directly from Hillsborough County Public Schools leadership about new initiatives, programs and exciting developments planned for the 2026-2027 school year.
As summer begins to wind down, the Back-to-School Fair serves as more than just a resource event. It's a celebration of new beginnings. Whether families are gathering information, picking up a backpack, enjoying student performances or simply spending time together, the fair offers a fun and welcoming way to start the journey back to school.
The 19th Annual Back-to-School Fair will be held Aug. 1 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Citrus Park Town Center. Admission is free.
