Teaching Teens to Think Like Innovators, Leaders and Problem-Solvers
At a time when financial literacy, economic understanding and entrepreneurial thinking are more essential than ever, Shorecrest Preparatory School is proud to introduce a new Signature Distinction for Upper School students: the Ross Roeder Institute (RRI) Certificate in Financial Literacy, Economics, and Entrepreneurship.
Designed for students who are curious about how ideas become ventures and how smart financial and economic decisions shape our world, the RRI Certificate blends rigorous academics with real-world, applied experience. The program supports students who are interested in business and innovation, while remaining flexible enough to complement passions in the arts, athletics, sciences and humanities.
A Future-Ready Pathway
Students pursuing the RRI Certificate complete a structured, four-year sequence of coursework and experiential learning that culminates in a senior capstone presentation. The academic core includes four foundational business courses and two aligned electives, drawing from areas such as financial literacy, economics, entrepreneurship, leadership, data analysis and public speaking. Courses may include offerings like AP Economics, Business Innovation, Design Thinking and Entrepreneurship, Leadership, statistics and communications, providing both conceptual grounding and practical skill-building.
The program’s flexibility is intentional. Students are encouraged to integrate business learning with their broader interests, whether that means applying economic thinking to global issues, using design principles to launch a product, or exploring leadership through athletics or the arts.
Learning Beyond the Classroom
A defining feature of the RRI Certificate is participation in four Warren Workshops – intensive, four-session learning experiences held outside the traditional school day. These workshops focus on applied business skills and timely topics such as negotiation, strategy and international business. The format allows students to learn directly from experts while collaborating with peers in dynamic, hands-on settings.
Students also complete two Competition Projects, where they apply their learning by innovating within an existing organization or developing an original venture. Projects are submitted through nationally recognized programs such as DECA, The Wharton Global High School Investment Challenge, The Diamond Challenge the Blue Ocean Competition, and others. These experiences require students to conduct market research, build financial models, develop strategic plans and present polished pitches, mirroring the expectations of real-world business environments.
Drawing from this work, seniors deliver a Capstone Presentation to the Shorecrest community, showcasing both their growth and the practical impact of their ideas.

A Signature Distinction with Meaning
The RRI Certificate is part of Shorecrest’s suite of Signature Distinctions – formal, multi-year programs that culminate in a certificate and a diploma seal. Like Shorecrest's Global Scholars Initiative and the STEAM Certificate Program, RRI reflects the school's commitment to depth, purpose and real-world relevance.
With the launch of the Ross Roeder Institute Certificate, Shorecrest continues to expand opportunities that prepare students not only for college, but for life, equipping them with the confidence, insight and skills to lead thoughtfully in an ever-changing world.
